Indian Dances
The dance traditions of India are diverse. It has been a part of social and religious culture. Statues of dancers appear in temples that link the dance with the Hindu religion.
There are different types of dance. Classical dance are for performance of ritual. Folk dances are performed at social engagements. Theatrical dances act out dramas and storytelling.
Bollywood is a commercial term given to modern form of Indian dance. It is a fusion of traditional and classical Indian dance. Bollywood dance is also influenced by jazz, hip pop and modern dances. There are sharp controlled movements.
Kuchipudi:
Legend- An orphan of Srikakulam was raised by the village. As custom, he was married at childhood. During the time he was studying, he acquired the name Sidhendra Yogi. On his way home, he came to a river. He tried to swim across the river and became tired and couldn't swim anymore. He prayed to the gods and asked for strength. He made it the rest of the way and vowed to become sanyasi. Kuchipudi flourished as a dramatic form of dance.

Bhangra: (Bollywood form of dance)
This is the most widespread folk dance. It is influenced by popular music and dance. Originally only men performed this dance. Women now are performing this style of dance.

Giddha (Bollywood Dance):
This dance is for women. It combines singing, dancing, and mimicry. They express themes of daily life while they dance.
